AAUW Lobby Corps

For more than 40 years, AAUW Lobby Corps volunteers have flexed their political muscles as volunteer citizen activists, spurring discussion around issues like access to education, economic security and civil rights. Since its formation, Lobby Corps volunteers have made tens of thousands of in-person visits to congressional offices on behalf of AAUW members and supporters in their respected congressional district, placing a name and a face to our mission of advancing equity for women and girls. This long-standing history is one reason AAUW is a familiar and respected name among members of Congress across the political spectrum.

What we do:

Every month Congress is in session, Lobby Corps volunteers can be found on Capitol Hill fighting to advance equity for women and girls. Volunteers are briefed on that month’s priority and then proceed to selected congressional offices to educate policy makers, conducting hundreds of visits each session and report back to AAUW staff for follow-up and grassroots activities.

Here is How You Can Join Us

Lobby Corps welcomes AAUW members and college students in the Washington, DC metropolitan area to attend this virtual training and lobby with us. No experience or expertise is necessary — just a commitment towards promoting AAUW’s nonpartisan public policy priorities.

Lobby Corps volunteers are trained in how to effectively advocate for AAUW’s priority issues with members of Congress and their staff. Volunteers receive briefings on each issue topic before going on visits, and new Lobby Corps volunteers are paired with experienced members.
