Tom Chappell oversees AAUW’s finance department. He joined AAUW in June 2016. He is a certified public accountant who brings over three decades of experience working with nonprofit organizations. His focuses on developing policies and procedures to improve performance and productivity. His expertise includes designing and improving internal control systems, assessing and mitigating risk, cash-flow modeling, grants and contracts management, and team building.
Tom began his career as an auditor at a local accounting firm specializing in providing services to nonprofit organizations. As the years passed, he shifted his focus to working directly with a variety of nonprofits to help them improve their financial operations and efficiency. This often entailed traveling to other countries, including Kenya and Romania, to conduct training programs and establish accounting and reporting systems. Tom is a long-term resident of Fairfax County Virginia and enjoys woodworking and gardening in his free time
