  • Oversee the financial, payroll and accounting operations
  • Manage and communicating fiscal policies and regulations
  • Participate in the college’s strategic planning process on complex fiscal matters, forecasting and policies
  • Investigate and modify fiscal related workflows to find operational and organizational processes that are strategic, efficient and effective
  • Proactively identify creative and fiscally sound methods for funding college operations and projects and for identifying new sources of revenue
  • Co-lead with the Dean, the college’s budget advisory committee
  • Direct supervision of the Assistant Director and the Service Center Manager, indirect management of eight Fiscal and Payroll Associates and ten fiscal staff embedded within units and departments across the college

Performance Objectives
In the first 60-90 days of employment, the successful candidate will accomplish the following:

  • Establish relationships within the college and across the university’s financial operations
  • Partner with the Dean and leadership team to establish a reliable five-year financial forecast
  • Identify opportunities to improve organizational alignment, structure and efficiency
  • Lead the process of closing out the FY18 college budget and building the FY19 budget


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience in accounting, management information systems and business administration
  • Five years’ experience in a senior fiscal position, with three years in an executive level position, managing operational staff
  • Experience with strategic planning, scenario analysis, forecasting and experience working in a team environment across diverse constituencies and organizations
  • Strong and effective leadership, management and interpersonal skills

Desired qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Five years’ experience working in a senior fiscal position, such as Senior Fiscal Officer, within an academic setting,
  • Experience with Responsibility Based Budgeting (RBB) and CPA designation

The Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics (APAM) at Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for a limited term Assistant Professor Faculty position in the area of applied and computational mathematics. The position begins July 1, 2019 for a term of 2 years. Salary is competitive and teaching is relatively light. Basic responsibilities focus on teaching, research and service.

A recent PhD and excellent promise in research are required. A broad array of research groups is active in the department, with current research encompassing applied and computational mathematics, and their application to many areas of biology, data and image processing, earth and environmental sciences, materials, and physics.

There is a strong cohort of activities on applied and computational mathematics within the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the affiliated Institute of Data Science and Engineering.

The Applied Mathematics program also has extensive and long-standing collaborations in many areas of earth, atmospheric and climate science with the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Science.

The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
