Resources, tips and tricks for AAUW state and branch leaders

Upcoming Dates and Deadlines

Officer Updates Due June 30 — Don’t Lose Leadership Access in Community Hub

If your affiliate title is president/administrator, membership vice president or finance officer, please update your officers for FY24 by June 30. Even if an officer is returning, make sure to note that their next term starts July 1, 2023. Login to Community Hub, then go to MY AFFILIATIONS and click the button next to your affiliate name and select MANAGE ROSTER. Then choose COMMITTEE MANAGEMENT to update officers.

Finance Officers Must Respond — Don’t Lose Your Tax-Exempt Status

All AAUW-affiliated entities must file a tax return each year. The simplest option for non-profits is to use Form 990-N, which AAUW can file on your behalf if your annual gross receipts are $50K or less.

To complete the group exemption form in the Community Hub by October 15, go to MY AFFILIATIONS and click the blue button next to your affiliate name. Choose TAX INFORMATION, then ADD NEW TAX DETAILS to complete the form for the tax period ending June 30, 2023. The form will ask for the principal officer, which is generally the finance officer. Please verify your Employer Identification Number (EIN) to avoid filing rejects. If you do not qualify to file the 990-N, AAUW cannot file your return. Please explore other applicable forms (e.g., Form 990, 990EZ or 990PF).

Gear Up for College/University Renewals for FY24

Renewal season for AAUW college and university members starts mid-June! We’ll email renewal invoices to college/university representatives and mail paper invoices to the Office of the President/Chancellor. We’ll also invite our lapsed members to rejoin us. State and branch affiliate college/university relations officers should be on the lookout for a list of current and lapsed member schools so they can support us in this process!

Drop into our Summer Office Hours

Our virtual “office hours” are a unique way to share feedback with AAUW National staff and get real-time answers to your questions. Between Independence Day and Labor Day this summer, AAUW Office Hours will be held on Thursdays only. Full Tuesday and Thursday sessions will resume the week of September 11, 2023.

Can’t-Miss Events & Opportunities

AAUW Member Gathering – June 29, 2023 at 4:00 PM Eastern

Please join us for AAUW’s Spring Member Gathering. We look forward to celebrating and recapping our accomplishments from this past fiscal year and sharing a preview of our priorities for the year ahead.

Update on AAUW’s Oral History Project with PCI

Thank you to those who shared information with your members about our comprehensive member data verification and Oral History Project with PCI (Publishing Concepts), and to those who reached out with questions and feedback. More than 9,000 members participated in the project, with over half updating contact information, and over 6,000 contributing member stories.

While we were pleased with the response, we’re also sensitive to members who expressed concerns about the outreach. For that reason, we have decided to cease further communications from PCI to branch members. If branch members who received postcards wish to contact PCI, they can still do so by calling the number listed on their postcard. We’ve also updated our FAQ page on the website about the project with member feedback in mind.

Expand your Reach with AAUW’s Global Initiatives!

Does your state or branch engage in global issues like the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, human trafficking or cross-cultural events? If so, please email global@aauw.org and tell us about your global efforts! Also, check out the updated Global Connections webpage for the latest on AAUW’s global initiatives, including our parallel event “Tech Power to Economic Power: Closing the Digital Gender Gap” for the 67th UN Commission on the Status of Women/NGO Committee on the Status of Women Forum.

Don’t Miss AAUW Emails

Help us help members who report not receiving AAUW emails! If you know of a member who has had issues regularly receiving AAUW communications, please direct them to https://aauw.us/emailoptions so they can get back on our email list!

Customize Your Preferences in the Community Hub

In addition to ensuring members are actively subscribed to AAUW emails and communications, Community Hub offers other tools for members to tailor the communications they receive from AAUW National. To update your preferences, login to the Community Hub and choose MY PREFERENCES. Then EDIT to make changes.

Reminder: Strive for Five-Star Recognition!

The Five-Star Recognition Program is a great resource for branches planning their fundraising and programming. Don’t forget that this year applications will be handled via an online branch impact survey, which will be sent to branches later this year. We’ll reach out with information on the timing and other details later this summer. Meanwhile, please direct any questions to Tremayne Parquet, Deputy Director of Advancement, at parquett@aauw.org.
