Bylaws Tool Kit
As the leader in your branch who is responsible for bylaws, you need to make sure your branch is following AAUW’s policies and has up to date bylaws that enable you to carry out your work. Collaborate with your president or administrator to understand AAUW’s policies and review your own rules.
The AAUW Bylaws contain the rules and regulations enacted by AAUW to provide a framework for its operation and management.
The AAUW National Board of Directors has voted to put three proposals for bylaws amendments before the membership for a vote this spring. The board strongly supports the proposed amendments that we believe will help keep AAUW vital as an organization and enable us to increase our impact in advancing equity for women and girls.
This document contains the AAUW Action Fund’s charter, as well as the rules and regulations for managing the Action Fund and conducting its affairs.
States, branches, and comparable AAUW-affiliated entities must develop and maintain bylaws that comply with AAUW policies and federal and state laws. Review your own bylaws and determine if they need updating to meet all requirements. AAUW entities must adopt all the mandatory sections contained in the AAUW model bylaws.

States, branches, and comparable AAUW-affiliated entities are encouraged to embrace these goals and strategies, build your own plans, and determine how you can contribute to AAUW’s shared organizational success within the parameters of your own resources and communities.
Other than the specific administrative and financial responsibilities to AAUW, job descriptions are flexible according to your organization’s resources and interests. Review the position descriptions and amend them to meet your organization’s needs.
All AAUW affiliates (branches, states, Younger Women’s Task Force chapters, and the Collegiate Women’s Leadership Educators Alliance) must submit requested documentation to the national office in order to be recognized as an entity officially affiliated with AAUW.
