Ok, maybe it’s not that bad. Maybe you’re just feeling overwhelmed or have no idea where to start.

The Younger Women’s Task Force (YWTF) is ready to break networking down for you with our latest webinar, “I Hate Networking … But It Landed Me My Dream Job.” We’re bringing together women just like you who have experience networking and want to talk about how it can help you pursue your next job.

Katie Bolton is quiet. And in today’s job market, that’s a liability. So she took a big step out of her comfort zone and e-mailed the new head of the World Bank Group’s Community Outreach program. That e-mail led to coffee, and that coffee led to her current full-time job as the program assistant in that department. In this role she not only gets to use her passion for doing good and supporting causes she believes in but also gets to help others do the same.

Laura Groth is a YWTF member who has relied exclusively on networking and referrals to land each of her jobs. She grew up in a small town in northwest Indiana where networking was a way of life. She is currently a doctoral student and about to start a new position in K–12 education policy and programming.

Mara Leventhal isn’t exactly a networking hater, and it shows. A YWTF member in Miami, she’s never landed a job by simply submitting a resume to a job posting, yet she’s worked at the Columbus Association of the Performing Arts, MSNBC, the American Red Cross in Greater New York, Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade, and as campaign manager for state senate race.

When Briggs Rolsfrud first moved to Washington, D.C., she kept looking for meetings and groups that would fit her networking needs. After three years of looking, she finally started her own, Happy Hour for Higher Ed Professionals. Originally from Makato, Minnesota, Rolsfud directs the admissions team in recruitment strategy and application processing at the Johns Hopkins University Advanced Academic Programs. She received a bachelor’s degree from St. Catherine University and a master’s degree from Harvard University.


Deepti Gudipati is AAUW’s vice president of member leadership programs. She leads a team that creates and manages leadership programs for AAUW’s members and plans the AAUW National Convention. She holds a master’s degree in organizational dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in public policy and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Carnegie Mellon University.
