Fight’s Not Over! The Vote Was Just the Beginning

AAUW is proud to be featured on Suffragette’s website as a charity of choice. Today’s women stand on the shoulders of the brave revolutionaries who fought for our rights. But we know the fight’s not over for women and girls, and we’re here to do something about it. After all, you know what they say about well-behaved women.
Here at AAUW, we help make history by empowering women and girls. For more than 130 years, AAUW has helped improve the lives of millions of women and their families across a wide range of issues. Here’s how we’re empowering women and girls and how you can help.

We are all over the gender pay gap.
The gender pay gap costs the typical woman at least $400,000 over the course of her career. We research the causes behind the pay gap and work to close it.
We shatter the glass ceiling.
We’re helping women run for office, get in the board room, and lead grassroots projects.
We empower women to vote.
In 2014, fewer than half of eligible women voters reported voting. Women fought for the right to cast a ballot. It’s time to use it! We work to ensure that every woman is registered to vote and has all the information she needs make her voice heard.
We fight campus sexual assault.
One in five women are targets of sexual assault while they’re college students. AAUW leads the charge for campus safety.
We support working mothers.
In the absence of paid sick leave and parental leave, too many women have to choose between keeping a job and caring for a child, a family member, or themselves. We’re helping change that.
We are solving the equation.
Women are still sorely underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. But we know how to inspire and retain women in these in-demand careers.
