Summary Description

The Manager develops strategy and manages tactics for AAUW’s college and university (C/U) memberships, including retention programs and student affiliate engagement; manages AAUW’s implementation of student leadership programs including the National Student Advisory Council, LAF Campus Outreach grants, Campus Action Project grants, Campus Ambassador program, and student organizations; creates and implements engagement strategies for campus professionals; supervises departmental interns; and assists the Vice President of Leadership Programs & Campus Initiatives (LPCI) with the AAUW national college/university committee.

Essential Duties

  • Works in partnership to develop and assess the ongoing strategy and planning for AAUW C/U member retention and all student engagement programs
  • Develops engagement programs with campus staff and faculty to strengthen AAUW within all populations at higher education institutions
  • Manages and engages 115+ AAUW student organizations in coordination with other AAUW departments
  • Manages AAUW’s National Student Advisory Council program, including application development, curriculum design, communication mechanisms, assessment strategies and coordination with the AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders
  • Manages AAUW’s LAF Campus Outreach and Campus Action Project grants, including application development, review process, grant management, communication mechanisms, and assessment strategies
  • Maintains ongoing external communication with current C/U members, student affiliates and student organizations, and oversee efforts to grow, expand and reinforce these relationships
  • Advises and assists local AAUW branches and/or members to establish and strengthen relationships with new and established C/U members
  • Works closely with other departments to ensure AAUW programs or services complement the retention of C/U members and e-student affiliates
  • Represents AAUW at on-campus events, AAUW state organization/branch meetings, and other external events including higher education professional events
  • Supports the VP of LPCI’s work with the AAUW National C/U committee
  • Coordinates and leads AAUW student engagement initiatives at the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders
  • Supervises intern/s to achieve duties noted above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or the equivalent, preferably in the humanities or social sciences
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in higher education institutions and/or organizations, such as with student affairs, alumni affairs, admissions, and women’s centers. Demonstrated understanding of campus culture, incentives, and priorities
  • Experience in teaching and/or facilitating discussion amongst college students
  • Ability to analyze, prioritize, and manage information from multiple sources
  • Demonstrated understanding of non-profit and/or association organizations, and the benefits that nonprofit entities, AAUW in particular, can provide to higher education institutions
  • Effective oral communication skills, including presentation skills, ability to conduct meetings, balance views and concerns of various constituents
  • Outstanding written communications
  • Experience motivating and managing teams and volunteers
  • Demonstrated history of creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in partnership or coalition with other organizations, as well as collaboratively with teams and individuals
  • Ability to work independently, manage projects and people, and keep supervisor and colleagues appropriately informed
  • Experience with effectively marketing and/or promoting projects/programs, including the use of email, website and social media components
  • Experience with developing and managing a budget
