Sample Media Materials

Sample Media Advisory

A media advisory is used to alert the media to an upcoming event, and is sent three to five days in advance of the activity highlighted. Advisories should be no more than one page in length, and should include only the vital details of your event: who, what, when, where, why. This sample media advisory is about an equal pay event, but it can be adopted for any AAUW branch or state event.

Sample Press Release

A news release is different from a media advisory in that it can be used for more purposes than solely announcing an event and it contains more information beyond the basics of the event information. A news release can be used to announce AAUW’s stand or action on an issue; to announce an AAUW event as it is happening (as opposed to the purpose of encouraging media to attend an event in advance); to evaluate the work of public officials; to announce the appointment or election of a new leader; or to call for the passage or defeat of legislation. This sample news release is about an Equal Pay Day event, but it can be adopted for any AAUW branch or state event.
