Stop Hurt. Start Here.
Collaborating with professionals and their theatre program, the Dakota State University CAP team produced a half-day workshop for middle school students about sexual harassment.
The Dakota State University (DSU) CAP team used the special abilities of students in drama, digital storytelling, and new media to develop and deliver a half-day workshop for 100 eighth grade students and educators to increase their awareness of the incidence of sexual harassment in schools and to explore and practice ways of dealing with it.
With the assistance and advice of area specialists, school counselors, teachers, professors, students and Crossing the Line: Sexual Harassment at School, the CAP team gathered ideas for sexual harassment scenarios for dramatization and students. The team members drafted narratives and then filmed seven scenarios for the workshop covering a range of situations and purposes. They showed the scenarios during their workshop in April. Byron Utter from the Midwest Center for School Safety also spoke to students during the event.
The CAP team developed a Stop Hurt. Start Here. website where they posted video/audio from the April workshop as well as information for students, educators, and the community about sexual harassment.
