Campus Action Project 2011-12
Using the CAP grant funding, students will put into action the recommendations from AAUW’s 2012 research report, Crossing the Line: Sexual Harassment at School to do the following:
- Work with local middle and/or high schools.
- Work with teenage youth in their community.
- Raise awareness about sexual harassment.
- Improve schools’ prevention methods and responsiveness to sexual harassment.

Dakota State University (South Dakota)
Stop Hurt. Start Here.
Collaborating with professionals and their theatre program, the Dakota State University CAP team produced a half-day workshop for middle school students about sexual harassment and developed a website to support the program.
Jefferson Community College (New York)
Bully Culture: Understanding It and Overcoming It
The project objectives were to raise awareness of sexual harassment of students in grades 7-12 and to provide educators, students, parents and community advocates with the tools to prevent and to stop harassment of students.
Millersville University (Pennsylvania)
Crossing the Line in Lancaster County: Adolescents, Sexual Harassment and Cyber Bullying
Millersville University students interviewed with local middle schools for focus groups. Using these results the students and the CAP team prepared a daylong conference for the students on sexual harassment and cyber-bullying.
Pacific Lutheran University (Washington)
Crossing the Line: Sexual Harassment at School
After conducting two focus groups on sexual harassment, the Pacific Luther University CAP worked with a graphic designer to create informational posters and tri-folds.
St. Mary’s College (Indiana)
Use Your Voice
The “Use Your Voice” workshop was presented to more than a thousand students in the Indiana community. The workshop lasted four days and was the culmination of St. Mary’s CAP Team research on Crossing the Line: Sexual Harassment at School.
University of Central Florida (Florida)
L.O.L.: Leading Out Loud
The Young Women Leaders Program at the University of Central Florida created a workshop that addressed anti-bullying and harassment issues to over 100 middle school students.
University of Kentucky (Kentucky)
The CAP team at the University of Kentucky created a toolkit that included a PSA, newsletter, business cards and slideshow about sexual harassment. The toolkit will be distributed to 13 high schools in Fayette County, potentially reaching over 11,000 students and their families. The information is meant to help them learn how to understand, identify, and intervene in cases of sexual harassment. A Facebook page was also created as an added resource to provide a forum for high school students in the Bluegrass Region to learn more about sexual harassment.
