Privatizing Social Security: Youth Opposition
AAUW Issues Resources to Help Understand the Risks of Privatization

A recent Pew Research Center poll revealed that support for “private accounts” is plummeting among young adults.

In particular, people under age 30 who have heard a lot about the proposal are more than twice as likely as their less engaged peers to oppose the idea (45 percent vs.19 percent). And among older age groups, where opposition is higher even among people who have not heard much about the private accounts proposal, those who have heard a lot express the most opposition.

There’s a backlash brewing against privatization – the younger voters are starting to understand the risks associated with privatizing Social Security.
