AAUW has restructured to become a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, but it is important to remember that our programs have not changed. They thrive and grow as members and friends continue to nurture and support these activities with their efforts and their financial gifts.
Contribution Process
The process for giving to AAUW has changed very little. You can still give general support to benefit all our charitable work. You can still restrict your giving to specific funds, programs, fellowships, or grants. And your donations are still fully tax deductible on your personal federal income tax returns. But now it is much easier to write your check or use your credit card to make a donation.*
All the funds and programs that were previously managed within the Educational Foundation and the Leadership and Training Institute are now part of AAUW, our 501(c)(3) charitable entity, which means that gifts payable to AAUW Funds are fully tax deductible. You can support all the programs with a single gift to AAUW Funds, or you can restrict your gift to any specific fund, program, fellowship, or grant that you would like. You can also split your gifts among multiple programs by indicating the fund(s) or program(s) to which you want to restrict your gift on your check, contribution report form, or any accompanying document. You can also visit our secure website to contribute.*
The five largest program areas are
- AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund
- AAUW Educational Opportunities Fund
- AAUW Eleanor Roosevelt Fund
- AAUW Leadership Programs Fund
- AAUW Public Policy Fund

Questions and comments are welcome and can be shared by phone at 202/728-3307 or by e-mail at development@aauw.org.
* Please note, AAUW also has a subordinate organization called the AAUW Action Fund. The Action Fund is designated as an IRS Section 501(c)(4) public or social welfare organization which may engage in limited activities related to member activism and voter education. Donations to the AAUW Action Fund are not tax deductible.
This is briefing #25 in our AAUW Current Topics Briefing Series issued by Linda Hallman, CAE, Executive Director.
