MEDIA ADVISORY: AAUW Hosts Panel on the Gender Pay Gap Across Professions
New Research from New Voices for Pay Equity

WASHINGTON – The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will host a Capitol Hill luncheon on Monday, April 11, the day before Equal Pay Day, to discuss gender pay differences in law, engineering, academia, and public relations. The panel, titled "New Voices for Pay Equity," will provide fresh evidence of pay inequities across these professions. Speakers will include researchers from the National Association of Women Lawyers Foundation, the American Association of University Professors, the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, and the Public Relations Society of America. Each will share research on gender differences in their respective professions. A representative from the Human Impact Project will conclude the session with remarks on the economic and health effects of the pay gap.

AAUW will provide free copies of its new guide to pay equity, The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap, a commonsense handbook that provides answers to some of the most common questions about the pay gap. AAUW Executive Director Linda D. Hallman, CAE, will moderate the panel, which also will include AAUW's top policy adviser Lisa Maatz. To RSVP, visit http://bit.ly/fYppZ0.

What:
Equal Pay Day, which falls on April 12 this year, is the symbolic point at which a woman's salary finally catches up to a man's earnings from the previous calendar year because of the gender pay gap. "New Voices for Pay Equity" will examine the pay gap in occupations not typically heard from in the debate.

When:
Monday, April 11, 2011, 12:30–2 p.m.

Where:
Kennedy Caucus Room
325 Russell Senate Office Building
Constitution Avenue and First St. NE
Washington, DC 20002
