Press Call: Civil Rights Groups Call for Strong Gainful Employment Regulation
AAUW Top Public Policy Adviser, Lisa Maatz, to Participate in Press Call

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, February 16, 2011, AAUW’s Director of Public Policy and Government Relations Lisa Maatz, will join other civil rights leaders on a conference call to highlight the need to hold colleges accountable to students and taxpayers.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has become increasingly concerned about credible reports that shed light on colleges that exploit students' need for financial aid, overcharge for postsecondary programs, and do not deliver results that lead students to real jobs. AAUW strongly supports the U.S. Department of Education’s efforts to define "gainful employment" in order to hold colleges accountable for providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete in today's marketplace. AAUW believes that higher education should be an engine for workforce training and development, and we must ensure that students can find affordable educational programs that lead to graduation and economically viable careers.
