Women Leaders to Meet in Washington, D.C., for AAUW Convention
Author Sarah Brokaw to Headline, Fair Pay Icon Lilly Ledbetter to March on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON — Close to 1,000 women leaders from every state in the country will be in Washington, D.C., June 16–19 for the 2011 AAUW National Convention at the Renaissance Washington, D.C. Hotel. The American Association of University Women, the nation's leading organization promoting education and equity for women and girls, will also celebrate its 130th anniversary at the convention.

AAUW members will be joined by an array of inspiring speakers, expert panelists, and distinguished guests. Lilly Ledbetter — the namesake of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which restored protections that allow workers to challenge wage discrimination — will attend the convention and participate in AAUW's Capitol Hill Lobby Day on June 17. Author Sarah Brokaw will give the keynote address at the AAUW National Convention Banquet the evening of June 18. Other speakers and panelists include Michelle Obama's Chief of Staff Tina Tchen, activist Gloria Feldt, youth expert Rosalind Wiseman, and sociologist Michael Kimmel.

"The AAUW community will be inspired by the variety of activities and opportunities we've designed to bridge the intergenerational span of AAUW's membership," said AAUW Executive Director Linda D. Hallman, CAE. "Our convention attendees will be part of a wonderfully motivating meeting of advocates and philanthropists leading the charge for women's and girls' equity everywhere."
