AAUW also co-hosted a reception in their honor, attended the oral arguments, and co-led a rally outside the court.

EQUAL PAY

Equal Pay Day 2011
Equal Pay Day was April 12, 2011, and AAUW marked the occasion by releasing a new guide about the pay gap, hosting a successful panel on Capitol Hill that brought some new voices into the debate, and supporting the reintroduction of the Paycheck Fairness Act. Read on to find out more about each of these big events.

Paycheck Fairness Act Reintroduced
In honor of Equal Pay Day, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) reintroduced the Paycheck Fairness Act. Help the AAUW Action Fund Lobby Corps gather sponsors for this important bill by writing your members of Congress today to urge them to sign on and to make sure they pass the bill this Congress! The time is now for pay equity!

AAUW's Equal Pay Day Event on Capitol Hill
On April 11, AAUW hosted a well-attended luncheon and panel discussion to highlight the continuing gender pay gap. The event, New Voices for Pay Equity, provided the media and Hill staff fresh evidence of pay inequities across various professions. AAUW Executive Director Linda D. Hallman moderated the expert panel, which presented data from current research on pay differences in law, engineering, academia, and public relations.

AAUW Publishes New Pay Gap Guide
AAUW's new guide, The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap, provides key facts, resources, and the latest information about the pay gap in the United States. The booklet contains easy-to-use graphs and charts, including state-by-state data, and is designed to help advocates understand the pay gap and push for pay equity.

AAUW Voices Project Off to Strong Start
Equal Pay Day also marked the first AAUW Voices Project media action with the publication of nearly 20 op-eds on fair pay. Written by AAUW members nationwide, these pieces reached Americans through opinion pages from Illinois to California to Texas. For more information about the project and a current list of op-eds, visit the project's web page.

Hallman in the Huffington Post
AAUW Executive Director Linda D. Hallman had an op-ed published in the Huffington Post. She wrote about AAUW's Equal Pay Day activities and reminded readers about the work we have yet to do to close the gender pay gap. Hallman said that she looks forward to the day when Equal Pay Day falls on December 31.

Dancing for Equal Pay?
Members and supporters of AAUW and the Center for American Progress Action Fund showed up on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on April 2 to participate in a unique demonstration for fair pay. The collaboration produced our first-ever fair pay flash mob. The event was planned to mark Equal Pay Day, April 12.
