Program Description

The Bridge of Hope is a campus-based support program at the University of Hawaii for welfare-recipient student parents, 97% of whom are single mothers. The program provides on-campus student employment for welfare recipients to meet their welfare/work requirements in a way that supports education. In addition, the program offers support services to help single parent students succeed in their educational goals. This includes advocacy, within both university and welfare agency bureaucracies as well as community referrals for crisis intervention.
