Program Description
Since its inception in 2001, the S.T.A.N.D program, (Science and Technology: Addressing the Need for Diversity), in the College of Computers, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences, has provided a multifaceted approach to increasing the number of traditionally underrepresented groups, such as African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and women, who are in the hard sciences at the undergraduate, graduate, and faculty level.
Through a range of programming and support services, S.T.A.N.D has demonstrated its commitment to providing an environment that cultivates a learning community of academically talented students. The program offers career development, need- and merit-based scholarships, fellowships, community outreach, mentoring and research opportunities, and academic support systems for students and faculty. S.T.A.N.D also serves as a "watchdog" by continually assessing the climate for women within the department and making recommendations for change.
