Program Description
Since 1997, the Symposium has raised awareness about race, class, and gender in teaching and learning. The annual event has successfully created dialogue about gender issues between students, faculty, staff, and members of the greater community. This program is now called “the Shepard Symposium on Social Justice.” The Symposium, begun by two faculty members in the College of Education, aims at involving University of Wyoming and local students in dialogue on issues related to social justice, particularly within the context of public education. Past Symposium speakers have included Anita Hill, Johnny Cochran, Morris Dees, and Ronald Takaki. These speakers have been heralded for their ability to draw many individuals representative of a diverse cross section of our community and region.
More information on the symposium is available online.
