Segel v. Regents of the University of California
Case History
A case in which a biochemist with a Ph.D. at the UC-Davis Medical School claimed she had been blocked from applying for tenure-track positions on the grounds that she was not an M.D., while male Ph.Ds were given such positions through a "closed hiring" process. Leigh Segel's case settled in September 1993, and she was appointed full professor in the Department of Surgery.
