Murray v. Western Kentucky University

Case History
This case involved sex discrimination in wages and promotion. Anne Murray, a 30-year administrative employee, advanced to a development director's position by 1990 but found herself making less money than the lowest level male directors with similar responsibilities. In 1991, she assumed the duties of director of development without a pay adjustment; her male predecessor had made double Murray's salary. Murray requested equity reviews to no avail, and she was denied permanent promotion to the director of development position in favor of a male with fewer qualifications. Murray sued WKU in 1994. The parties settled the dispute in August 1995. Murray received almost $100,000. Her attorneys received just over $50,000.
