Arakawa v. University of Wisconsin, Madison

Case History
A suit brought by a former graduate student who alleged that she was sexually harassed by the supervisory professor in the oncology laboratory where she worked as a research assistant. Arakawa also alleged that the professor made derogatory statements about her ethnicity. Renee Arakawa is of Asian, Pacific Island, and Latino heritage. She filed suit against the university in November 1995 for sex and race discrimination. The case settled in June 1996. Among other things, the university agreed to pay Renee Arakawa $35,000.
