International Connections

AAUW has a long and proud history in global affairs that includes awarding more than 2,600 international fellowships to women from over 132 countries and collaborating with leading international organizations and coalitions to break through barriers for women and girls.

AAUW holds special consultative status at the United Nations with the Economic and Social Council, which initiates reports, makes recommendations, and promotes respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. This designation gives AAUW a voice at U.N. meetings and on committees. We are also eligible to sign on to nongovernmental organization statements, make oral and written statements, hold office in NGO committees, and share AAUW’s well-respected expertise. At the United Nations, AAUW is represented by devoted member Carolyn Donovan, who attends select meetings, monitors issues affecting women and girls, facilitates our interaction with U.N. entities, and informs the membership of critical issues affecting women and girls.
