CARE's Annual National Conference & Celebration!
AAUW members and branches were invited to participate in the CARE National Conference & Celebration on May 5 and 6 in Washington D.C. for two days of political action, learning and inspiration. The conference featured top activists, lawmakers and speakers, including Wolf Blitzer and Gwen Ifill, and participated in an issues session featuring AAUW Executive Director, Linda Hallman, about the importance of connecting the world’s women in the fight against global poverty. Participants receive hands-on training for promoting important global issues on Capitol Hill, and met in person with U.S. Senators and Representatives to educate them about why women's empowerment is important to.

53rd SESSION: UNITED NATIONS COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN
March 2-13, 2009 marked the 53rd session of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations headquarters. The priority theme was "The equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including caregiving in the context of HIV/AIDS."
The session was attended by AAUW Executive Director Linda Hallman, AAUW U.N. Represetnative Carolyn Donovan and IAC Chair Bonnie Lincoln, representatives of Member States, U.N. entities and of ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world.
AAUW and CARE Celebrate International Women's Day 2009 with A Powerful Noise Live!
AAUW joined CARE and more than 120,000 people in 450 theaters across the United States to celebrate International Women's Day 2009 on March 5, for the unprecedented one-night event featuring the theatrical premiere of A Powerful Noise, an acclaimed documentary that follows three extraordinary women in Vietnam, Bosnia, and Mali.
