International Organizations/Coalitions

AAUW’s work extends globally via membership in coalitions to support human rights treaties, partnerships with international organizations such as CARE and the United Nations, and the promotion of major events such as International Women's Day.

United Nations – Commission on the Status of Women
The 56th UN Commission on the Status of Women will take place in NY from Monday, February 27 to Friday, March 9, 2012. Representatives from Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world will attend the session. There will be a number of activities, including interactive dialogues and panels, during the two-week session.

Priority Theme: The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges.

United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA)
A nonprofit membership organization dedicated to building understanding of and support for the ideals and work of the UN among the American people.

United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
AAUW has special consultative status with the ECOSOC, which initiates reports, makes recommendations, and promotes respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs - Division for the Advancement of Women
Works to advance the global agenda on women's rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women, and ensure that women’s voices are heard in international policy arenas.

Women Thrive Worldwide
A leading non-profit advocating for policies that give women and families the tools they need to escape poverty.

US National Committee for UN Women
The US National Committee (USNC) for UN Women supports the mission of UN Women and social, political, and economic equality for women and girls around the world. Members and supporters are men, women, and children in cities around the country who give their time and resources to support a world where women of all ages have access to education and employment opportunities, and sustainable livelihoods that enable them to live free of gender-based violence.

U.S. Global Leadership Campaign
A network of 400 businesses and NGOs; national security and foreign policy experts; and business, faith-based, academic and community leaders in all 50 states who support a smart power approach of elevating diplomacy and development alongside defense in order to build a better, safer world.

7 Billion Actions
AAUW has joined UNFPA's campaign, "a global movement for all humanity," to build awareness about the opportunities and challenges in a world of 7 billion people. Log-in and share your story.
