AAUW - One Connection College Students Need ...

Pioneering college graduates founded AAUW more than a century ago when popular wisdom held that higher education impaired women's health. AAUW’s first research debunked that myth, and ever since we have paved the way for women to earn their degrees and achieve their dreams.

Did you know that

  • Just one year out of college, women working full time already earn less than their male colleagues. Ten years after graduation, the pay gap widens.
  • Title IX, the law that outlaws sex discrimination in education, is under constant attack.
  • Sexual harassment is widespread among college students, and the majority of students are harassed in their first year of college.

As an AAUW student affiliate you will belong to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.

As a student affiliate, you can

  • Access leadership development resources and opportunities such as the Student Advisory Council, the Campus Action Project grant program, and the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, an annual leadership training conference in Washington, D.C. that attracts more than 500 students.
  • Reach other AAUW student affiliates through our student affiliate e-mail list. Participate in discussions with members on our blog, AAUW Dialog, or join our NCCWSL Facebook group.
  • Join or start a local AAUW student affiliate satellite group on your campus. Contact us at students@aauw.org for more information on how to start one. Check out your local AAUW branch using the branch locator. You can work with your local branches to coordinate events and projects on your campus and in the community.
  • Receive electronic versions of AAUW publications AAUW Outlook magazine, Mission & Action, and Washington Update — to keep you informed of our work and advocacy.
  • Receive early notification of AAUW's fellowships and grants programs. Each year, AAUW provides more than $4.5 million to women for graduate study.
  • Internships. Gain valuable experience through AAUW branch internships while improving the future for women and girls.
  • Be in the know. Access AAUW’s latest on gender equity in education, the gender pay gap, and sexual harassment on campus. Visit our Public Policy page to find out where your representatives and candidates stand on issues that are important to women and girls.
  • Increased buying power. Take advantage of exclusive member discounts and value-added services for AAUW books and merchandise auto insurance; credit cards; travel; magazine subscriptions; quality health insurance plans; and books.

Who Can Join as a Student Affiliate? An AAUW student affiliate is available to all undergraduate students who do not already have a bachelor's degree. Graduate students are not eligible for "student affiliate status."
