2008-09 SAC members meet human rights activist
Naomi Tutu at the 2009 National Conference for
College Women Student Leaders
Members of the SAC provide AAUW staff with essential firsthand accounts of student needs and ideas for combating sex discrimination in higher education and the workplace, promote AAUW and its programs on their campus, contribute to AAUW's Dialog blog, and serve as student leaders at the annual National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL), held in June in Washington, D.C.
Serving on the SAC provides members with many opportunities to represent the voices and experiences of college students, develop as leaders, network, and gain valuable résumé-building experience while learning more about one of the largest women’s organizations in the world.
Student advisers serve one-year terms from mid-October through mid-June, and participation in all meetings and activities is required. Meetings are conducted by conference call on a monthly basis beginning in October and lasting through June.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to have their voices heard by a leading national woman’s organization and gain valuable leadership experience!

Brittany Anderton & Tammy Hong listen to the
opening session at NCCWSL
“I enjoyed being part of the SAC because it gave me a chance to become familiar with other female student leaders, help plan and organize an event, and network with people outside my college community. I have only been familiar with AAUW since serving on the SAC, but I have enjoyed my experiences. At my college, I joined the local branch and was immediately welcomed. I'm moving soon and I plan to join the local AAUW in my new state so that I can stay involved.” — Brittany Anderton, 2008-09 SAC
"Working with the SAC has opened up my eyes to a whole new world. This world consists of women who seek change, who are leaders and who are putting their foot forward. By being a part of SAC I was able to experience the excellence of advocacy as well as the reward of change."
