For further information about the Student Advisory Council, please contact the Leadership and Training Institute at lti@aauw.org. 2008 AAUW Student Advisory Council  | Aeriel Anderson University of Maryland, College Park College Park, MD Aeriel is a full-time graduate student at the University of Maryland with a part-time assistantship in Community Service-Learning in the U of M Student Union. This summer she will be an apprentice to the Vice President of Student Life at American University, working specifically with New Student Programs and Multicultural Affairs. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in strategic communications, and double minor in business management & political science. She was involved in a number of leadership experiences as an undergraduate including her sorority, the Tom Burnett Advanced Leadership Program, and the University’s Orientation & First-Year Programs Office. | | 
| Junei Chen University of California, Berkeley Berkeley, CA Junei is a 4th Year Legal Studies Major in UC Berkeley. She has managed marketing/publicity for the campus club “Bears for UNICEF”. The goals of the club are to raise funds for and spread awareness about UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) with fundraiser activities and community outreach programs. She was active in coordinating with other campus clubs to create more successful events for UNICEF. She is a former intern at Wider Opportunities for Women in Washington, D.C. | | 
| Lenore Flower Bucknell University Lewisburg, PA Lenore is a sophomore at Bucknell University majoring in East Asian Studies. She is very active in campus activities related to women’s equality, including a weekly feminist column in her university newspaper, past involvement in V-day, and her position as a student event coordinator at Bucknell’s Women’s Resource Center. Lenore most recently helped to create a mentorship program at Bucknell, where university students and professors in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) introduced girls ages 9-12 to their fields as part of an AAUW Campus Action Projects grant. She is a former intern at the American Association of University Women in Washington D.C. | | 
| Tsega Gaim Gonzaga University Spokane, WA Tsega is a Political Science major with a minor in Religious Studies at Gonzaga University. While holding a position as Program Coordinator in the Black Student Union, some of the events she has managed include the Annual Black History Month Dinner, and numerous dances and fundraisers throughout the year. She enjoys getting involved with the local youth, whether it’s volunteering at Libby Teen Center or contributing to programs such as First in My Family, and Gonzaga University’s GEL weekend. She is currently interning with the Spokane Prosecutors office. | | 
| Ilaria Ghattas Gonzaga University Spokane, WA Ilaria is currently attending Gonzaga University and plans to major in Business Marketing and Public Relations. Beginning her first week on campus, she initiated the creation of an International Movie night on campus. She is involved in the Black Student Union. Ilaria recently began a Catalyst group (Bible Study) on her block. She has also been involved in Street Team for the Gonzaga Student Activities Board, which is responsible for bringing musical concerts to campus. She is anxious for the next three years and plans to change the surface of Gonzaga one step at a time.

| DaVina Hoyt Washington State University Pullman, WA DaVina is currently a doctoral student at Washington State University (WSU) in the College of Education. She is also taking courses at Gonzaga University in the doctoral program in Leadership Studies. Her research focus is on "living two lives", mentoring, and the ability of low-income African-American females to break the glass ceiling in education. In 2004, DaVina became the first African-American female president of Washington State University Graduate Professional Student Association. She is also the past vice president of the National Association for Graduate and Professional Students (NAGPS), based in Washington, D.C. Currently she serves as the Younger Member Representative for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Board for the state of Washington and was a member of AAUW Student Advisory Council for 2007-2008. DaVina is currently a participant in the Community Colleges of Spokane Future Faculty of Color Intern Program, based out of Spokane, Washington. She volunteers in the local community speaking to and motivating young disadvantaged girls as. She is currently in the process of setting up a mentoring program (based on trust, honor and respect) that will allow college students to mentor and be mentored by low-income high school students. DaVina is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Spokane Chapter of the LINKS, Inc. She is the mother of a five year old son, Caleb and married to Floyd. |
| Andrea Jackson University of South Florida Tampa, FL Andrea Jackson, B.A., is a full-time masters student at the University of South Florida in Counselor Education, a certified Girls Circle Facilitator for adolescent girls, as well as a certified Owning Up Facilitator, a curriculum on violence prevention. Her research interests include: Multicultural and Advocacy Competencies for School Counselors, Teachers, and School Administrators as a way to help close the achievement gap; Ethnic Identity and Academic Achievement; Psychological and Racial Development of diverse youth; and Resiliency factors in children from diverse and lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Andrea has presented at European Branch of the American Counseling Association Annual Conference in November 2007 in Germany, The Florida Counseling Association’s Conference in November 2007 in Daytona, Florida, and participated in a poster presentation at the American Counseling Association Conference in Detroit, Michigan in March 2007. Andrea recently received confirmation that her article submission was accepted with minor previsions to The Journal for the Professional Counselor. Andrea is the 2007-2008 AAUW Tampa Branch’s Annual Scholarship recipient as well as the Network of Executive Women’s 2008 Scholarship. |  | Amanda Lobsinger Northern Michigan University Marquette, MI Amanda will be graduating this May with a BS in English and a minor in journalism. On campus she’s been involved in the Student Leader Fellowship Program and Superior Edge. Currently she is a TA for a freshman probation class and spends a lot of time mentoring her students on leadership skills. She has also spent time during college volunteering in the Marquette community with a range of local organizations. Her next step will be pursuing a M.S in Higher Education Administration. | | 
| Tina Roberts DePaul University Chicago, IL Tina is a second year Masters student in a Community and School Counseling program. She attended Northwestern University for her undergraduate studies. Identity development and education are my two main interests that she is researching for her thesis. She works as a graduate assistant in the Office of Multi-cultural Student Affairs, where many of my responsibilities focus on encouraging students to pursue graduate school. She is currently the President-Elect for Chi Sigma Iota, the Graduate Counseling Honorary Society and serves as the newsletter editor for the DePaul Black Leadership Coalition. In addition to those formal campus activities, she organized a Women’s Group that meets once a month to discuss issues that affect women and practical ways that we can bring about positive change in our own lives and that of our communities. | |  |
