AAUW will celebrate its 130th Anniversary on November 28, 2011. To honor this auspicious occasion, we are declaring November National AAUW Month!

Each November, we will host a nationwide Cocktails and Convos night by inviting all of our branches to host their own event — on the same evening — at a popular restaurant in their area. This year, the nationwide Cocktails and Convos event was held on Tuesday, November 8, approximately one year before the 2012 presidential elections. The focus of the evening was AAUW's new My Vote campaign, with special emphasis on prompting young women to register to vote.

AAUW has created a Cocktails and Convos Program in a Box, which gives you a basic format to follow. We also recommend that you have a guest speaker or panel; however, branches are encouraged to customize the event for their own community.

In the Washington, D.C., area, AAUW National held and event at BlackFinn. It was a great start in discussing how we are getting young women educated about and involved in the next election.

Elsewhere in D.C., The AAUW/DC branch held a Cocktails and Convos with a guest lecture by Dr. Sonya Sobrian.

Online, a Virtual Cocktails and Convos was held using Facebook and Google+.

AAUW of Michigan (districts 4, 7 and 8) held a banquet in honor of AAUW's 130th anniversary. The 190 members and guests were honored to have a video greeting from U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.).

The AAUW Milwaukee (WI) Branch held a Cocktails and Convos on November 9. They were joined by guests from the community and other local branches. Their Cocktails and Convos featured a signature drink — a Blue Hawaiian.
