Getting Out the Vote on Election Day at AAUW!
Today, Election Day, AAUW staff — almost 100 people — made get-out-the-vote reminder calls to young women in the battleground state of Ohio. By 2 p.m., we had made almost 1,000 calls. For some staffers it was their first time phone banking, and some called more than 100 people. These calls were a continuation of the AAUW Action Fund’s It’s My Vote: I Will Be Heard campaign, which aims to turn out millennial women voters, a group that is often underrepresented at the polls.
As AAUW Vice President of Government Relations and Advocacy Lisa Maatz said, “At AAUW, we’ve always believed that when women vote, we change the conversation. Candidates know they need women’s votes to win, so we have a real chance of driving the discussion on the issues we care about. But that conversation is only influenced by those who actually show up at the polls. That’s why we’re reminding women that their vote is their voice and to make it heard today!”
