Thumbs-up Award and AAUW Dialog Art Week

February 17, 2012

Every year, the AAUW Art Contest draws a wide variety of art submissions. It’s always amazing to see the diversity of the artwork that comes in. And each year, I find myself going back to the gallery and choosing a new favorite every time. It’s also great that AAUW members get to vote for six favorites each week through the four weeks of voting — because it’s easy to imagine that you might have 24 favorite entries!

While anyone can view the entire gallery, only AAUW members can vote in the official contest. That’s why this year we added a second, concurrent contest on Facebook. The AAUW Thumbs-up Award recognizes the people’s choice among all 2012 Art Contest entries. Anyone can “like” as many entries as they wish. The entry with the most “likes” at 11:59 p.m. on March 6 will be the 2012 Thumbs-up Award winner. All art contest winners will be featured on, Facebook, and AAUW Dialog.

This contest is part of AAUW Dialog’s art week, February 20–24, when we’ll highlight women in the arts by taking a closer look at women’s underrepresentation in the field and the artist’s role in increasing awareness about critical social issues. We’ll also feature one of our very own fellowship recipients from the art world. It all culminates with a very special event at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., on March 1 to celebrate women’s voices in politics and art.

So stay tuned for next week’s art-focused posts. And remember to vote in both the Thumbs-up Award competition and, if you’re an AAUW member, in our official AAUW Art Contest.
